SSCR at AAR
Emerging Voices in the Study of Chinese Religions
Call for Proposals
We are happy to announce that we are renewing our tradition of hosting a SSCR luncheon at the 2024 annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion, showcasing new research in the field by recent PhDs as well as ABDs who are completing their dissertation work.
The SSCR is accepting proposals from recent PhDs and ABDs to present their work at a round table during its session at the AAR meeting in San Diego (Nov. 23–26; day and time TBD). The meeting will be held in-person, and we will have very limited capabilities to accommodate virtual presentations. All speakers will need to be members of the Society for the Study of Chinese Religions by the time of the conference.
We are interested in talks of roughly 10 minutes on any aspect of Chinese religions. The presentations may focus on recent field or archival work, or on a new critical framework of analysis of Chinese religions. Nominations of younger scholars by thesis advisors or other senior scholars are welcome, and please feel free to send this announcement to anyone who might be interested.
Proposals should include a brief prospectus on your topic of no more than 200 words as well as a brief description of your current status (i.e., ABD and projected date of completion; or PhD, date of completion, and academic affiliation, if any), dissertation title, and thesis advisor. Please send inquiries to Elena Valussi (evalussi@luc.edu) and Megan Bryson (mbryson4@utk.edu).
Deadline for proposals: August 15, 2024
